Finding e-Journals in the Library

The Library is putting the finishing touches to a new set of services which enable staff and students to locate e-journals within our collections.

There are three key elements to this service and each is being replaced as follows:

e-Journal (A-Z) Portal - this enables you to search for e-journals by title or subject and to search for specific articles by citation or Digital Object Identifier (DOI). This service is already available from the Library website under the 'Find' menu and is listed as a 'Beta' version. The existing service will be switched off this coming Wednesday the 17th of February and the new service will then be the 'live' service.

Library Catalogue records for each journal title - these enable you to locate e-journals by title in the library catalogue. The existing records will be deleted and replaced with simpler and more up-to-date records. The deletion and replacement of these records will take at least four weeks to finalise. We expect the old records to be deleted in about 2 weeks time and the new records to be imported a few weeks after that. In the meantime if you are looking for a specific title you should use the new e-Journal (A-Z) Portal which is both accurate and complete. We will advise you when the import of the records is complete.

Link Resolver - this is the service which enables you to link from a citation in a database to the full text of the article where that is available in another database. The new service has been implemented and you will see a small icon and or 'Check for Full Text' below relevant citations. Clicking on this text will take you to the article you are seeking or, if that is not available, present some other options for obtaining the article.

There is also a brand new service which has been implemented as part of this upgrade:

Terms of Use - all database services are obtained under licence agreements. These agreements stipulate who can use the service and what they are able to do with the contents of the database. When searching for a e-journal by title in the e-Journal (A-Z) Portal you can connect to the Terms of Use by clicking next to the journal title. You will find that the terms vary between content providers (even for the same journal) and you should check these terms before you copy, print or share the content.
