A New Way to Find Library Resources

The Library has today launched a new resource discovery service called Summon.

Summon is a new type of search service which applies the approach used by search engines like Google to the Library’s information resources.

In the first phase of the implementation the Summon service allows you to search the majority of our eJournal and eBook content simultaneously from a single search box (the supplier is adding more eJournal and eBook coverage as they negotiate access with the publishers). In the second phase we will add the library’s catalogue holdings so that we can concurrently search our print holdings in with our digital holdings. In the third phase we will add-in the contents of the University’s research repository.

Access to Summon is available from the right hand side of the Library homepage . From the search box you can link to a some information which explains the service in more detail and a demonstration video which explains the nature of the service.

Summon is intended to replace the SuperSearch service but during the implementation of Summon we will continue to provide access to SuperSearch. Access to SuperSearch will end at the end of Semester 2/2010, the 19th November 2010.

Summon will make resource discovery quicker and easier for both staff and students.
