Annual Library Subscriptions Review 2014

Each year the University Library conducts a review of the entire suite of our subscription resources – databases, e-book collections, research portals and individual journal subscriptions (both print and electronic) – to determine which resources we should be adding to our collections in order to better support our teaching and research activities.  Each year, as a consequence of the feedback we receive in this review, new subscriptions are added to the collections.

During the month of April the Library is inviting all staff and students to contribute to the review by suggesting resources they want to access from their local library or from the shared eResource collections.

How do I make a recommendation ?

You can make recommendations online using a ‘webform’ located here which will become live on 1st April or by clicking on the icon on the Library home page  .

What happens to the recommendations ?

All suggestions received by the end of the review will be collated by the Library and be included in our collection development plans for 2015. Final subscription decisions depend on the availability of funds to support the subscriptions we wish to make available.  If you have recommended a resource in a previous review but it has not been added to the collections we would ask you to re-nominate this subscription to emphasise its importance to your research. We use the Library news service to advise you of any new subscriptions.

How do I find out what resources the Library already provides access to ?

You can see all of the existing eResources collections here and you can see whether we hold a journal by searching for this journal by title in the Library catalogue for print journals or here for eJournals.  If in doubt make the recommendation and Library staff can check to see if we have access. If you provide your contact details we will reply explaining how to access the subscription you are interested in.

What if I want to recommend a book for acquisition ?

You can recommend a book, eBook or DVD acquisition at any time of the year here.  You might want to recommend a book that is held by the Library but not at your campus or a title you have seen or used at another Library.

We welcome your recommendations.
