Library Collections Continue to Grow

The University Library continues to add to the range and volumes of information resources available to the University Community.  Much of this growth is occuring in the online or eResources collections and while opinion is divided about the merits of the eBook the usage of these resources indicates that they do serve a need and are well used.

To give you a sense of the dimensions of the resources available the overall national collections sizes are now:

• Phsyical resources (books, DVDs, etc) - 224,420

• Online resources (eBooks, eJournals, etc) - 196,451

In both cases a serial such as a journal is only counted as one item even if we have 100 years worth of issues of the title available for usage.

These resources can be discovered via the Library Catalogue (which shows where they can be accessed) and Summon (which tells you more about the item than the catalogue and links through you to online resources or the Library catalogue in the case of physical resources). 

The University Library aims to provide the information you need to satisfy your research interests and wants to hear about resources we don't have.  You can recommend a resource at any time via our website.  Get in touch and help us to improve the collections.  We use this service to advise you of significant improvements to the collections.
