(Fremantle Campus Only)
Library at the Fremantle Campus consists of three
individual libraries. Each library has different collections and
facilities but are open to all students regardless of their school affiliation.
We track the attendance in these libraries as the primary
evidence for determining what opening hours should be offered in each
location. We also survey students about their requirements in terms of
services and factor the comments made into our decision making.
This evidence we have points to the fact that attendance
during weekday evenings across the three libraries is relatively low (and
sometimes in single figures for the evening).
While we don’t doubt the value of
the service to those who are in attendance we are mindful that it seems
wasteful to light and climate control three buildings for a few people. Attendance on the weekends is higher and our
data indicates that you would stay longer on the weekend if you could.
With these attendance patterns in mind we have changed the
opening hours in 2014 in the following ways:
- Closure of the Craven and Galvin libraries from 6pm on weeknights during teaching (this
means that you can now borrow Reserve collection items from both of these libraries
from 4pm on weekdays and keep them until 9am the following day)
- Retention of the 10pm
closing in St Teresa's and
extension of the Friday closing in St
Teresa's to 8pm during teaching (this service now begins earlier than
in previous years - from 28th Jan - and runs until 21st
Nov inclusive)
- Employing two staff at
the desk in St Teresa’s to
improve service at this library after hours
- Extension of weekend
hours at all three libraries to 5 hour opening slots
- Opening of Galvin from 8am on the
weekends*
- Opening of Craven until 7pm on the
weekends*
- Opening on Public
Holidays other than those which are mandated University Holidays (during
teaching this is Good Friday and Easter Sunday)
*this
means you can access the library from 8am until 7pm on both Saturday and Sunday
