University Library Client Survey - iPad Winners

In late 2013 the University Library ran a Client Satisfaction Survey.  Students entering the survey were eligible to win an iPad mini, with one available for NSW residents and one for those in living WA.

The NSW winner was Alexandra Mersky and the WA winner was Cameron Dudfield.  The winners are pictured collecting their prizes from Michael Cullen, Campus Librarian Sydney, and Stephen McVey, University Librarian.

The results of the survey have been compiled and an overview of the results will shortly be distributed to students via their ND email accounts.

Tell Us What You Think About Our Library

The University Library is conducting a survey to ascertain how well the University Library collections and services are meeting the needs of our staff and students.

The survey employs a standard survey instrument which is administered externally by a company called InSynch. This  survey is widely used at Australian university libraries.  This means we can assess our results against these libraries during 2013 and over time.

The survey will take 5 to 10 minutes to complete, depending on how detailed you choose to make your comments. Your comments are anonymous but the resulting full set of comments is passed to us for analysis.  We find the comments in many ways the most valuable output from the survey because they provide specific details about what you want from the Library.  We use this advice in planning changes and developments in Library collections and services.

Students submitting the survey will go into the draw to win an iPad mini.  We have one of these to give away in WA and one in NSW.  The draw will be made by the staff at Insynch and the winners notified by email.

The survey is due to end on Friday 25th October 2013 and can be accessed at http://bit.ly/undalibrarysurvey

We would be grateful for the time you devote to completing the survey.

Tell us what you think... win and iPad 2...

The University Library is currently conducting a customer satisfaction survey. You can link to the survey from the Library homepage.

The survey is an opportunity for both students and staff to answer a series of questions about how they use the Library, its services and collections, both print and online. We are asking for this feedback so that we can develop the Library services and collections to better meet your needs.

Who can read my responses?
The survey is being conducted by an independent survey research company, Insynch, and individual responses cannot be viewed by University staff. Once the responses are collated and analysed, the results will be published on the University Library website and distributed to all students and staff via email. We will continue to keep students and staff informed via our Library News blog as we develop the Library services and collections.

How long will it take?
The survey will conducted online and will take about 10 minutes to complete. The survey will be open from 9am WST on the 5th of September 2011 for four weeks, closing on the 2nd of October 2011

How can I win the iPad?
All students who reply to the survey will go into a draw to win an Apple iPad2. There is also a runners-up prize of a $50 iTunes voucher for each of our six campus libraries. The winners will be randomly selected by the survey research company and notified via email to collect their prizes from their local Library. Staff are being surveyed as well but are not eligible for the prize draw.

I would be very grateful if you would take 10 minutes to complete the survey .

Results of Library WebSite Survey

As part of the trial of the new Library website, the Library conducted a survey of 100 Library customers.

Most of the respondents were undergraduate students (73) with a smattering of postgraduate students (12), University staff (14) and one alumnus.  The Schools of Education (34), Law (17), Arts and Sciences (13) and Medicine (10) were most heavily represented.

Positive Feedback

The feedback was generally very positive, with most respondents make supportive statements about the site being easier to navigate (49), looking better (33), being more informative (12).  A number of respondents liked the new 'databases' page and the ability to quickly access a 'Style Guide'.

Negative Feedback

The negative comments were considerably fewer and few of them had more than one person making the comment.

Responses

One that comment that did occur a few times was a request for easier access to the 'My Account' feature in the 'library portal'.  This seemed such a sensible suggestion that we added a link on the home page below the 'search' box (by the way you can launch a keyword search into the portal from this 'search' box).

Likewise a number of respondents asked where the Law and Business subject guides are.  These are currently being drafted and will be added to the site in the Winter break.  We apologise that these have not been available to date.

Some respondents stated that they found that there is too much information on the site and that it is 'confusing'.  In designing the site we tried to 'flatten' it down to reduce the number of clicks to get at individual services or 'bits' of information.  As you will appreciate Library service have become very complex in the age of the internet and we can only reduce the volume of information so far without leaving out vital services.  As always there is a balance between too much and not enough information.  If you can't find what you are looking for please ask at one of the libraries either in person or via email . You can also provide feedback about the site in this way.

Conclusion

Thanks to those who provided us with the feedback.

The two websites will continue in parallel until July 2009, when the old site will be decommissioned.
